Though it didn’t win a contract, a lot of the design ideas for this particular plane would prove useful in future Hughes Aircraft projects. The Duramold process would be employed on the massive flying boat Hercules, and the sleek twin-boom construction would be reused on the xf-11 spy plane. Few pictures exist of the D-2, which was destroyed in a hangar fire cause by lightning.( Ironically Hughes claims lockhead stole this design for it’s p-38 Lighting)
